Our party of four chose Chakana Adventure Travel as our tour arranger and guide for our July, 2013 one week trip to the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and Cusco. We did contact other tour guides for comparison. We were inclined to go with Chakana early on in the planning stages due to their prompt replies to our email inquiries, the thoughtful way the itinerary was arranged based on our interests and budget, before other companies had even responded to our initial inquiry. They really took the worry out of the planning and their prompt replies to our emails continued right up to our arrival in Lima. Initial great service continued once we actually arrived. We had never traveled with a guide before and the experience was wonderful. We had five days with the same person who got to know us, what we were interested in and then proceeded to tailor his tours to us and our interests. We learned so much about Peru's history, geography, people, ecology, botany and politics. We never had to worry about logistics, we just got to learn and enjoy. Chakana Adventures was fantastic!!! I would book with them again in a heartbeat. They made everything about our trip so easy and exceeded our expectations. From the first emails with Alfredo, who designed our trip, it was apparent that this was a professional, well organized company. He gave us a couple of different itineraries based on the limited time we had to spend in Peru and then based on our feed back and preferences, came up with three or four more plans before we decided on the Sacred Valley, the Inca Trail and tour of Cusco. Communication was quick and every question we had was answered.
When we landed in Cusco after a very long sleepless night of travel, we were met by Percy, our guide, and Jose Luis, our driver in a very nice van with smiles.
Our guides, Percy and Carlos, were very knowledgeable and friendly and willing to share some personal stories which made us feel like we were learning some about the real Peru instead of just feeling like a pure tourist. Thank you.
The 4 day/3night Inca Trail trek was as luxury as you could get on the trail. Four course meals by a great chef, the porters were always happy and smiling and Carlos, our guide, was really knowledgeable with a great sense of humor.
We also met the office staff, Alfredo. He made us feel as if his only concern was making sure we were happy. The bottom line is Go to Peru and book with Chakana. You will not be disappointed!

My family booked our trip to Peru about 3 weeks in advance and things couldn't have gone more perfectly and Chakana adjusted our itinerary to fit all of our needs and got back to us so quickly. Their prices are very reasonable. We got a van to transport us around daily which was nice since there are 5 of us and usually we are cramped when we are traveling. They provided us with a driver AND a tour guide which we were unaware of prior to getting there since usually the driver is the tour guide in other countries we have travelled to. They were always there to pick us up at the exact time they promised to meet us and were so patient and kind. With Kuoda, you get a more personalized experience as well. Alfredo, the founder of Chakana even met us one morning for breakfast to make sure everything was going alright. It was the perfect vacation and I'm so glad we chose Chakana!

We have just gotten back from our two week Peruvian tour (May/June 2013) that we planned with Chakana Adventure. In the past we have done small group tours or traveled on our own, but have never done a private tour. When we were investigating group tours for Peru, we couldn't find one that went to the areas we wanted to see. This time we decided to see more sights than just Machu Picchu, so the planning took more time. Chakana gave us options and we worked together to fit our needs and budget. They responded promptly to the numerous questions we had. People have talked here about prices, but with what we wanted to see and do this tour was not that much more than a group tour and we had much more flexibility. When we ran into groups on the trip and saw some of the people listening to the guides and some just talking, we knew we had made the right decision. Our guides were knowledgeable and we were always picked up on time. The drivers were careful and courteous. Alfredo met us at the airport in Cusco to thank us and make sure everything went as planned and to get our feedback.

We recently returned from a 11 day tour with Chakana Adventures and had a wonderful experience. We found Chakana by a friend recommendation. The communication was excellent. They tailored the tour to our interests. All the guides were born and lived in the cities we visited (Cusco, Puno, Arequipa) and were by and large wonderful. They not only chose great hotels, but great rooms in the hotels. Alfredo, the founder, met us at breakfast in Cusco half way through our trip to see how our experience was going. We think this is a great tour company, a great value, and would highly recommend it.

We recently returned from a 6 day trip to Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu organized by Chakana Adventure Travel. We had a great trip. Right from the time we started our enquiry with them (Alfredo was our agent) until we boarded our return flight in Cusco, they took excellent care of us. Our guide, Carlos, was knowledgeable, professional and courteous at all times. The same can be said about our driver, Jose Luis. The accommodations were exceptional. We lunched with a local Peruvian family. Excellent local food in delightful company. The logistics were all well taken care of. On a couple of occasions, when we needed to, we were able to quickly get hold of the folks in Cusco and adjust our plans. All in all, we had a great time and we would definitely recommend Chakana to anyone planning to travel to Machu Picchu.

Chakana Adventure travel exceeded my expectations in almost every way imaginable. From the beginning, their team worked hard to personalize my trip. They kept in close contact and repeatedly sent me the most updated itineraries and costs. I was able to add days and destinations with ease. I was able to change hotels and add activities as well. Of course, it was very easy and convenient working with a team from Peru, a team incredibly knowledgeable about every hotel and destination.
I traveled with my father and brother, as we figured Peru would be a great destination for a guy’s trip. It was a 14-day trip in all, in August. We traveled to Arequipa, Chivay/Colca Canyon, Puno/ Lake Titicaca, Cusco and the Sacred Valley. Our drivers and guides were punctual, accommodating, knowledgeable, and certain to make sure we were having the time of our lives. Many times during our trip the agency contacted us in our rooms to make sure that everything running smoothly. Traveling with your own van, driver, and guide really is the only way to go. Our guides had each grown up in their respective territories, and they were eager to answer any questions we had. We very much enjoyed the cultural exploration aspect of being in Peru, so we had many questions for our guides. The drivers and guides were very professional and each had wonderful personalities! Our vans were very clean and our accommodations were better than we could have asked for. We stayed at many nice hotels.
Having local guides also had other advantages. My brother and I are foodies, so we enjoyed getting recommendations and sampling each area’s specialty. With Chakana, you literally can tailor your adventure while you’re on the go. If we wanted to see more of a town, our guide would allow us to see more of the town. And, when we wanted to forego activities, our driver and guide were ready to move along with us. Every area we explored was unique and truly special in its own way. The tour groups didn’t go everywhere we went. Yes, tour groups were at a lot of the key places, but Chakana offers more, and we were interested in experiencing the “Real Peru” too. There were many other wonderful opportunities available, but we could only fit in so much. Also, I can’t say enough about the people of Peru. Everywhere we went, we ran into the most hospitable and accommodating people. I very much enjoyed learning about their lives and sharing moments with them. We were always very safe and in good hands. Chakana’s professionalism, attention to detail, and desire to run the most organized and well-operated travel service in Peru was evidenced by each person we met representing the name. Thanks to Chakana, we enjoyed the Peruvian trip of a lifetime.

As far as my experience is concerned I can say that we scheduled first class customized tour of 11 days along Peru with Chakana throught emails ( the classical tour Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Cusco, sacred valley, macchu picciu, puno, titicaca lake)
The quotation we got was significantly lower than the one we have received from the most of the travel agents for Peru. All the Chakana people we met have been very professional, patient and really fair. The performance of Chakana Agent, in other words, has been above our expectations.

I highly recommend Chakana.
We have never used a travel agency before, being independent travelers We chose to go with Chakana Adventure to Peru because of the difficulties arranging secure, private travel without having to drive ourselves in the crazy traffic and roads of Peru. Chakana was wonderful. They replied promptly to our emails, helped us make our own itinerary, found us excellent hotels, some of which were not in our 2 guide books, gave us a knowledgeable personal guide, provided us safe comfortable drivers and cars. They handled all our tickets and transfers flawlessly. If this freedom from getting lost, making mistakes, being in accidents, or even being confused cost a bit more, it was very worth it. Our trip to Peru was wonderful due to Chakana.

We were a little nervious about using a travel agent out of the country, but after reading a number of great reviews we decided that Chakana Adventure Peru was the best agent to help with this trip. They arranged our entire trip to Peru in June 2013 and it was without a doubt the best trip we have ever taken (and we have traveled extensively). Alfredo and his team worked together with us for months in the planning for this trip, which included Lima, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca, Cusco and the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and the Amazon. They thoughtfully planned the itinerary for the easiest adjustment to the altitude so that we could get the maximum enjoyment out of each location. We were very happy with all of our sightseeing, hotels and wonderful guides throughout the two week trip. They really know their business and gave us suggestions and options for daily activities to customize the trip to our interests. This is such a beautiful, colorful country with lovely people, great sights, good food and haunting music.

Chakana not only met our expectations, exceeded them. Because of your efforts, our Peru trip was one of our best trips ever (we travel a lot, so that is really saying something)! Sacred Valley is amazing, our guide Percy and driver Luis were fantastic! More like family than guides, they welcomed us into Peru through their eyes. Every day was better than the last. Really found the salt ponds incredible!
Machu Picchu is simple WoW! What can you say! It really took my breath away! a REAL highlight! Agua Calientes was a cute little town. Enjoyed wandering around in the evening.
Cusco is such a beautiful city! Great food, wonderful plazas, and enjoyed the less modern feel. It was so nice to walk around at night and enjoyed the sounds of the city.
The attention from Chakana is really personalized, calling every day to see how our day was and if he could help with anything else. The highlight of my trip was Peru itself. I came to Peru for Machu Picchu. What I found was an incredible country with more to offer than I had known. The people of Peru are warm, kind and happy! I am so lucky to have the means to travel and see the world and I am even more blessed to have made new friends in Peru and will carry the memories in my heart for years to come!!!

I feel that we got 110% of our money's worth and this trip was worth every cent. I could have not done a better job myself even for two times the price. The accommodations, food and transportation were all very comfortable and made you feel more "local" then tourist. Alfredo really kept an eye out for us and made sure we had a good time and took very good care of us.
The Inca Trail was, with no doubt, the highlight of our trip - remarkable views, good guide, excellent food and a true physical challenge. The idea to add the Titicaca Floating Islands was very good. All the hotels were very good. So, basically everything was great.
I want to thank you for the good planning and execution of our entire trip, which matched our expectations and will be kept in our memories for long long time. We enjoyed very much the Amazon jungle, specially the Refugio Amazonas Lodge which was very unique. Cusco was a great fun, the rafting was enjoyable and challenging in a decent level, and I want to thank you very much on behalf of the group!!
